Finally BSE Sensex closed at 16,918 with slight edge of 40 points ie 0.25% while NSE Nifty up 10 points ie 0.2% to close at 5128 levels.

In today's trading Ranbaxy, Sterlite Industries, Maruti Suzuki, Sesa Goa, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, ACC, GAIL, Power Grid, Ambuja Cements, DLF, Bank of Baroda, ONGC, Hindalco, HCL Tech, Cern India and Reliance Industries such as top shares closed with strength of 0.5 to 3%. However Wipro, SAIL, L & T, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Sun Pharma, Asian Paints, Tata Power, M & M, IDFC, Infosys, BHEL, NTPC, Hero Motocorp, Cipla, Bajaj Auto, BPCL and HDFC stocks broke off 0.5 to 3%.
Midcap stocks - Tata Global Beverages, Prestige Estate, Bajaj Corp and Bajaj Hindustan closed at highest strength of 5.1 to 11.4%. But HDIL, IRB Infra, Pipavav cap and JP Infra stocks such as Midcap closed down 3.3 to 6.6%. Similarly Smallcap stocks Newtime Infrastructure, Triveni turbines,, JK Paper and Saawariya Agro closed up highest 6.8 to 9.9%.
